Colour Correction

We consider ourselves a forward thinking web design, branding and graphic design business and as part of our determination to improve and update our services we identified colour proofing as an area we should improve upon.

Having developed an expertise in colour correction, working closely with companies such as Romo fabrics and Villa Nova, we were confident that our in-studio processes were very effective. However, the time delay obtaining ‘printers proofs’ for the various stages of colour correction, plus the time spent ‘on-press', by both us and our clients was one which we were determined to improve upon.

The most important part of the review was the research of current improvements that create a better level of image control between the designer, repro (conversion to printable format) and the plate (the physical representation used to print with). Once this had been identified Absolute invested in a high-end, in-house colour proofing system, that produces industry standard, FOGRA 39 colour certified proofs. We then reviewed all of our preferred print partners in order to identify those that adhered to the ISO European standard for colour accuracy.

The results have been dramatic; colour correction stages have been reduced in terms of time and improved in accuracy. Also, because our proofs are calibrated to the printing press itself, on-press proofing times have been reduced to less than one hour in most cases. A further benefit is that the potential for additional charges due to press down-time or plate changes has been dramatically reduced.

Why is it important?

  • The photographic process works using the RGB colour spectrum. Images therefore need to be converted to the print viable CMYK colour spectrum.
  • Accurately representing your product ‘off the page’ reduces customer dissatisfaction and product returns.
  • Creating our own, certified proofs reduces valuable time spent ‘on press’.
  • Future reprints will be consistent with the originals.
