A client of ours recently experienced a loss of Search Ranking Position (SRP) for their primary search phrase, which coincided with Google's new algorithm update known as Caffeine. All their other search terms maintained their previous positions, which suggested the site was not blacklisted, but rather penalised for a high keyword density relating to this specific search phrase. We took the following actions:
- Modified their news module to enable us to categorise news stories by search terms and dates;
- Balanced keyword density throughout each page for all search terms;
- Checked for broken links;
- Enhanced web design to reduce the load time of the site;
- Used specialist SEO tools to ensure that page content had not been duplicated.
Our Digital Services Director, James Bird, yesterday attended this year's Online Marketing Show at Olympia in London. "Attending these events on a regular basis is a great way to keep up to date with the latest search engine optimisation techniques," said James. "It's also a great opportunity to meet with other SEO practitioners and pick up new ideas to help our clients achieve their desired results on the search engines while ensuring a great web design."
The show was organised by Marketing Week and featured seminars on topics ranging from link building to social media marketing tips and how to maximise the SEO aspects of your web design.
Over the next few weeks, we'll be passing on lots of the insights from the conference to our clients. If you'd like to meet with us to see how we can help get your site on page one of Google for your chosen keywords, please get in touch.
I am sure that everyone who has a website on page 1 for a competative keyword will have experienced the Google Dance. The term Google Dance is used when your website randomly drops several places or pages for a selected key term. This drop can happen for several reasons.
The main reason for this is because Googles data centers don't recieve new cached information at the same time, so while all the data centers are being updated with the most up to date information, there is known to be some serious fluctuation in Googles results.
Take our keyword 'Web Design Nottingham', we have continuously been in the top 4 positions over the past year, however all of a sudden we have dropped to position 11. We are going to look to rectify this using link building and refreshing the content on the homepage for the next Google cache. Another key factor to note is that all the other keywords we target have not been affected by the Google Dance. Eg. ‘Web Design in Nottingham', ‘Website Design Nottingham' are still at position 1 and 2 respectively.
Our resident SEO expert attended the Online Marketing Conference at the East Midlands Conference Centre earlier this month. It was a great opportunity to find out about imminent changes to Google's search algorithms and how social media marketing will play a huge part in how search results will be displayed from January 2010.
Visit http://209.85.225.103/ for a sneak peak at the new Google. You may not notice any difference, but there will be several changes made behind the scenes. It will be faster and be have capabilities to search much deeper into websites. Deeper indexing will give way to a new Google result known as 'real time search'. This will return results from Facebook, Twitter and all other social media platforms.
To find out how we can improve your SEO and achieve that all important page one ranking, get in touch.
Our website has been ranked number two by Google when searching for "web design Nottingham". This is our most important search term and enjoys 5,400 searches every month.
As experts in web marketing and search engine optimisation, we know all the tools of the trade to ensure our clients rank highly on Google for their key search terms. With such commitment to ensuring we're providing the best SEO service, it's imperative that we practice what we preach and in the past two months we have gone from the bottom of page one to the top, by applying the same methods to our own site as we do for our clients. We only use Google approved, ethical, white hat techniques, so there is no risk of your site being penalised, or even worse, blacklisted.
In addition to building your website with an SEO compatible, easy to use Content Management System, such as Absolute's and populating this with keywords and phrases identified by our consultants, the key to any successful SEO campaign is link building. This plays a major part in allowing search engines to rank the importance of your site and is an integral part of any effective SEO campaign. However, without a proper understanding of search engine algorithms, link building and directory submissions this will have minimal effect.
"We may not be the best branding and web design agency in the area,
but we're in the top one" was Dave Ellis' homage to Brian Clough as he
introduced Absolute at Tuesday night's networking event held on behalf
of the Institute of Directors, Nottingham Chamber of Commerce and
Derbyshire Chamber of Commerce at the City Ground.
Acting in
our capacity as a Regional Partner of the IoD, Dave Ellis was asked to
officially welcome the 90 plus attendees to the event. The crowd were
then entertained by the guest speaker, Nigel Jemson, who played for
both clubs in his illustrious career; Nigel answered a number of
questions about his time at Nottingham Forest and predicted a 2-1
victory, so he clearly had some inside knowledge.
The next IoD
event in Nottingham takes place on February 26th, when Caspar Barry, a
professional poker player, consultant on Casino Royale and co-founder
of Twenty First Century Media will be explaining about risk management.
We look forward to seeing you there.
