“Content is King” ?

| Posted by absolute

Way back in 1996 when the web barely existed and Google wasn’'t a thing, Bill Gates - the American business magnate, produced the article, Content is King.

Within the article, Gates stated:

“Content is where I expect much of the real money will be made on the Internet, just as it was in broadcasting.”

So almost 20 years on, how relevant is this article today?

Authentic content builds engagement and brand awareness and is one of the most effective ways to push your website up search engine rankings. The copy on your site, marketing materials and social pages are the voice of your brand. They'’re the start of a conversation with your customers, where they get to know you and your products. Combine good content with SEO and you’ll fight off competition much more effectively, and boost website success.

Website content, social media campaigns and original content are great for boosting your SEO and engaging with new and existing customers. On top of this, the effectiveness of your content can be tracked and monitored, allowing you to change certain keywords and directly target customers looking for a specific service.

Of course, it’'s not just content alone that generates business success. But if your content is high-quality, authentic, useful and engaging, you’ll build a following. Add a touch of SEO and you’ll pick up more customers along the way.

So in a nutshell, yes, content is still king. BUT it’s important to note that not content is king. With 571 websites created every minute(!), there is a lot of sub-par content and information produced and it’s the job of good marketers to swim through the debris and come out on top!

1. Know who your customers are
2. Don’t worry about word count
3. Have an end goal to your content
4. Nail your headline
5. Don’'t forget SEO.
