BACKGROUND

A luxury bathroom and kitchen interiors brand with a well-curated Magento store and loyal customer base.

Our client had been with us as a support account for ten years. As a retailer of premium bathroom and kitchen products, their Magento site is central to the business, built around a large catalogue with layered navigation, range-led categories and complex product variations throughout the store.

The brand is well established, with a refined visual identity, a loyal customer base and a product range with clear appeal. Yet, technical SEO had not yet been deeply explored, and they wanted to understand whether their site foundations could be improved over time to increase organic impressions and traffic.

That curiosity led to a full technical SEO audit of their Magento site. The goal wasn't to find quick wins or chase vanity metrics. It was to properly understand the structural and technical issues limiting organic visibility, and to give the client and our Magento developers a clear, prioritised roadmap to work through.

While we have made this case study anonymous to protect the client's identity, we have highlighted SEO milestones achievable for Magento-based retailers.

BRIEF

Identify what was limiting organic performance on a well-established Magento site, and put a clear SEO plan in place to fix it.

As a valued support client, the day-to-day front end development and maintenance of their Magento site was already being taken care of. However, the deeper structural and technical elements that influence organic performance had never been fully reviewed and addressed.

Were there structural issues affecting how search engines crawled and indexed the site? What were the gaps that may be limiting visibility across their key categories and product pages? A full technical SEO audit was the answer.

The brief was to carry out a thorough technical SEO audit of the Magento site, document every issue with clear context and make recommendations that the client and developers could work through at a practical pace.

HOW WE HELPED

From a detailed technical SEO audit to incremental implementation and measurable revenue, organic growth and engagement.

Technical SEO audit

We started with a manual audit of the full Magento site, using leading SEO tools – Semrush and Screaming Frog – along with Google Search Console as the foundation, backed up by deep manual analysis.

The audit was structured across high, medium and low priority issues, giving the client and their developers a clear sense of where to focus first and what could be addressed in stages.

High priority findings included broken internal links, duplicate meta titles and descriptions, pages that couldn't be crawled, 404 errors caused in part by a footer spam protection script generating broken URLs at scale, duplicate content, along with incorrect URLs in the XML sitemap that were still pointing to redirected pages.

Structured data refinements

Structured data was present but had errors and invalid markup on several pages. This was preventing the site from being eligible for rich results including product ratings, pricing and availability in search results.

We documented the issues clearly and ran validation using Google's Rich Results Test once fixes had been applied by the development team on the staging environment, which would then be deployed to the live site.

Implementation support

Rather than deploying changes in one go, improvements were rolled out incrementally. Our SEO Manager worked alongside our Magento developers and dedicated Account Manager, validating each fix and making sure every change aligned with SEO best practice before sign-off.

SEO reporting

Following the audit, the client moved into ongoing technical SEO reporting. We run regular reports that track the health of the site over time, giving both the client and our team a clear view of progress as fixes are implemented and new issues are identified early before they have a chance to impact performance.

It's a practical way to keep the site in good technical shape beyond the initial audit. As fixes are implemented, the reports make improvements visible and measurable over time. Incremental gains can build up significantly, and having the data to demonstrate that progress makes a tangible difference.

Competitor analysis

In addition to the technical SEO audit, we carried out detailed competitor analysis across core home interiors search terms to understand who was outranking the client and why. This surfaced keyword gaps, topical depth opportunities, internal linking advantages competitors held and SERP features being captured by rivals.

The output gave the client a clear picture of where to focus their content optimisation efforts.

CONCLUSION

A 55% increase in organic revenue and 11% improvement in click-through rate after improving the technical SEO foundation.

The results following implementation were clearly positive. Organic revenue grew by 55.66% over the same period year on year. Organic key events increased by 22.37%, and CTR in organic search grew by 11.1%.

That gap between organic session uplift and eCommerce revenue growth tells us that the gains didn't come from a flood of new traffic. They came from a better quality of visit, stronger relevance and a site that search engines could now understand more clearly, and rank more effectively.

For such a large Magento catalogue site with complex navigation and hundreds of product variations, getting the technical architecture right is fundamental. Without it, even a strong brand with a great product range can struggle to move in the right direction, at a consistent rate.

Addressing the structural and technical issues that had built up over time gave the site the stronger foundation it needed. The commercial results that followed were a direct reflection of that work, and we continue to work closely with the client through their Magento support retainer to further enhance their SEO performance.
