How our website relaunch grew organic traffic by 47%

Three weeks after launch, the new Absolute site is already outperforming the old one. We're ranking higher for the service terms that matter most, and reaching more people who are ready to enquire about improving their ecommerce potential.

Why we relaunched the Absolute website

Helping ecommerce brands build faster, clearer and better-performing stores is what we do best as a Shopify and Magento agency. From UX/UI design to development and ecommerce SEO, every project is shaped around how real customers shop and search. It made sense to hold our own website to the same standard. If we're recommending a better structure, stronger service pages and SEO built in from day one, our site should be the proof.

Building on Shopify was a deliberate choice. As a non-transactional site, ours shows what the platform can do for businesses that sell services rather than products, with content and lead generation at the heart of the experience.

The new site gave us the chance to rethink how we present our Shopify, Magento and creative services. We wanted our services to have purpose, so both visitors and search engines could understand exactly what we do.

How we built SEO into the relaunch

We treated our own website the way we'd treat any client replatform. SEO was part of the project from the very first planning session. Every decision on structure, templates and content was made with search in mind:

  • Mapping redirects from every old URL to its new equivalent
  • Structuring service pages around the terms people search for
  • Keeping internal links clean so authority flows to key pages
  • Checking titles, meta and headings before go-live
  • Monitoring rankings, crawl errors and traffic daily after launch

That groundwork is what allowed the new site to pick up where the old one left off, and then push past it.

Cited in Google's AI Overviews

We're now cited in Google's AI Overviews for commercially led searches. That's the AI-generated answer at the very top of the results page, above the traditional listings. As more searchers get their answers straight from the results page, being the source Google trusts is fast becoming the most valuable spot in search.

It puts our name in front of people before they've scrolled to a single link.

Earning those citations comes down to the same fundamentals as ranking well for traditional ranking numbers. Clear page structure, well-organised content and pages that answer the questions buyers are asking.

Organic traffic up 47% since our relaunch

More people are finding us through organic search, and the visitors arriving now are far more engaged than before. Traffic on its own is a vanity metric, so it's the engagement figures we're most pleased with.

  • Engaged sessions up 69%. More visitors are staying, clicking through and exploring beyond the page they landed on. That tells us the new structure is doing its job and guiding people deeper into the site.
  • Engagement rate up from 53% to 62%. More than 3 in 5 sessions now count as engaged. When engagement rises alongside traffic, it's a strong sign the right people are landing on the right pages.
  • Time on site up 23%. A few extra seconds might not sound like much, but it's the difference between a quick scan and reading what we do. Visitors are taking time to understand our services.
  • Key actions up 41%. The actions we track as signs of real interest, like contact clicks and enquiries, have risen alongside the traffic. This is the number that turns search visibility into conversations.

Page one rankings for our development services

Several of our most important services now sit on the first page of Google, with a handful already in the top three. Page one is where the vast majority of clicks happen, so these positions make a real difference to enquiries.

Top 3 positions

  • Magento site audit
  • Magento B2B design
  • Shopify app development agency

These high-intent search terms cover ongoing Magento and Shopify support, technical audits and bespoke B2B design, services that often lead to long-term partnerships with our clients.

Alongside our platform expertise, it's good to see our creative and local terms gaining ground too.

Magento and Shopify service pages ranking higher since launch

Our biggest wins are on the searches that bring in new business. These aren't broad informational terms, they're the phrases ecommerce brands use when they're ready to hire a Magento or Shopify agency in the UK.

Since launch, we've moved up for 14 of our key commercial terms, including:

  • Magento B2B development: up from 7 to 5
  • Hyvä themes developers: up 6 places, from 11 to 5
  • Magento B2B design: up from 9 to 6
  • Magento UX: up 5 places, from 11 to 7
  • Shopify agency Nottingham: up 4 places, from 14 to 10
  • Brand identity design: up from 16 to 13
  • Magento design and development: up 15 places, from 34 to 19
  • Magento store development: up 23 places, from 43 to 20

The larger jumps for Magento store development and Magento design and development show what a clearer page structure can do. Both terms moved from deep in the results to within reach of page one in just three weeks.

What this means if you're planning a replatform

Our results show that a relaunch can be the moment your rankings start to climb. With SEO built in from the start, a new site becomes a chance to grow your visibility, not just carry it over.

A new platform is the perfect time to tighten your page structure, sharpen your content and give search engines a clearer picture of what you sell. Get those foundations right and your new store has the best possible start for SEO.
